Frequently asked questions

Where do my files go when the desktop is hidden?

Nowhere: nothing is moved or deleted. SeventyDesk only hides the icons visually (a live Finder setting in the direct version, a screen overlay in the App Store version); your files stay exactly where they are on disk. Click Show desktop to bring them all back exactly as they were.

Does it work for screen sharing or video calls?

Yes, that is exactly what SeventyDesk is for: run it right before sharing your screen or plugging in a projector, and no icon or personal file shows up in front of your audience by mistake.

Does it work with multiple screens?

Yes. The direct version applies the Finder setting, which covers every screen at once. The App Store version places one overlay window per screen, and updates automatically if you plug in or unplug a monitor.

What is the difference between the website version and the App Store version?

The website version sets the Finder preference directly and relaunches Finder: it is the same setting macOS itself uses. The sandboxed App Store version cannot do that, so it visually covers the desktop with your own wallpaper instead. The visible result is identical.

App Store or direct download: which should I pick?

It is the same app. From this site: free 7-day trial, then a 6.90 CHF lifetime license sent by email, with built-in automatic updates. From the Mac App Store: paid upfront, updates handled by Apple. Pick whichever channel you prefer.
